We started this hike in a hot afternoon in May, 2001. It took us four hours to go up the switchback trail to the top and back down again. Be sure to bring along a bottle of water for each person!

The wildflowers were in bloom along the bottom of the hill and we were rewarded with many views of the poppies and other colors in the hills in spring. The trail starts off in this covered grove along a stream and within a few hundred yards breaks out into a mild uphill march that gets steeper and steeper until you reach the top. Be prepared to stop a lot and enjoy the views.

Years ago we went to the Pinnacles in Summer. It was over 100 degrees in the shade and just wasn't worth it for us. We haven't been back for 25 years. Coming in May seemed to be the ideal time to enjoy the flowers, the views and not have to worry about heat exhaustion. You can tell we are not very serious hikers.
